About

Biography and Artist Statement

Mady Teeter is an emerging Canadian artist based in Southern Ontario. She recently earned her Bachelors of Fine Art with an Honours Specialization in Studio Art from Western University. Mady primarily works in painting and drawing mediums where she specializes in portraiture, figurative work, and vibrant limited colour palettes.

Mady’s artistic practice is largely influenced by her love for cinematography. She is fascinated by the aesthetic and emotional impact that the dynamics between framing, colour, light, and movement have on visual storytelling; She aims to translate the elements employed in the world of cinematography into her art.

Mady’s ability to see the world through a filmic lens inspires her to bring these visions to life. Her work aims to evoke emotion and establish a narrative that extends beyond the limits of canvas or paper. As a primarily figurative artist, she is drawn to the unique connection that humans have with our likeness in art. She seeks to represent the simultaneously complex, yet simple; the universal, yet deeply personal nature of the human experience. Mady embraces ambiguity and encourages viewers to interpret her language of visual storytelling through the perspective of their own experiences.
